From December 1 to 3, 2024, this mission brought together leaders from over 190 Canadian companies and organizations, working to unlock exciting new business opportunities and deepen connections in Southeast Asia.

The event provided invaluable insights into the dynamic business environments of Indonesia and emphasized sustainable trade, innovation, and partnerships. This milestone reflects Canada’s commitment to strengthening ties with ASEAN nations and advancing its Indo-Pacific Strategy.

Dr. Sabir Ali, the President of IFANCC, participated as a panelist alongside Dr. Mamat Salamet Burhanudin, the Head of the Centre for Halal Registration and Certification at the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency. Their Presentation, titled ” Halal Certification & Panel Discussion on Halal Market Opportunities” offered Participants valuable insights into Indonesia’s regulatory environment, halal certification, and practical advice tailored to Canadian businesses seeking opportunities to enter Indonesia’s agri-food market.

Team Canada Trade Mission To Indonesia (Jakarta)

As part of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development lead a Team Canada Trade Mission (TCTM) to Indonesia. The trade mission helps Canadian exporters and innovators from across the country position themselves in these markets by showcasing their capabilities and competitiveness while facilitating long-term trade and investment opportunities.

The trade mission is open to companies and organizations from all sectors. The trade mission program focused on areas of Canadian competitive advantage in these priority sectors:
• agriculture and processed foods (including fish and seafood)
• clean technologies, clean energy, green mining
• information and communications technologies
• infrastructure (nuclear, smart city, and airport technologies)
The business-to-business program stream (which includes pre-arranged business-to-business meetings) were available only to eligible SMEs that operate in these priority sectors.

From December 1 to 6, 2024, Minister Ng leads more than 300 representatives from more than 190 companies and organizations as they seek to broaden their reach in 2 of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic markets. The Minister helps Canadian companies unlock new prospects, gain insights into the business cultures in Indonesia and in the Philippines, and connect with key government and industry leaders to take advantage of new business opportunities.

These opportunities are expected to strengthen trade, investment and supply chain resilience, and deepen connections with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and in the broader Indo-Pacific region—all priorities under Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.

During the trade mission, Minister Ng met with key Indonesian stakeholders about topics of shared interest, such as Canada-ASEAN relations, climate change and the green economy transition, and the importance of women being leaders and entrepreneurs. She will also meet with her international counterparts to advance more sustainable and inclusive trade for all.

The trade mission included programming such as:

• networking opportunities with Minister Ng and Indonesian business leaders
• on-site business briefings by our Trade Commissioners, senior officials, and key local industry players
• market overviews and/or roundtables with local industry players and experts
• pre-arranged business to business meetings (only applicable to companies selected for the B2B program stream)
Given the large size and the broad scope of Team Canada delegations, accepted applicants will be placed into one of two program streams.

1. General program

The General program provides delegates with market intelligence and networking opportunities through briefings and various networking events. This program stream does not include business to business meetings.
The General program stream automatically includes representatives from:
• Provinces
• Territories
• Municipalities
• Trade portfolio partners
• Chambers of commerce
• Trade associations
• Companies that are already well-established in the target market or at an exploratory stage of doing business in Indonesia and/or the Philippines

2. Business to Business (B2B) program

The B2B program includes the General program and a tailored program of pre-arranged B2B meetings. This will be offered to a select number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating within the priority sectors(refer to event details).

Eligibility criteria for Canadian Companies

To be considered for the trade mission, applicants must clearly demonstrate the following criteria:
• be export-ready and have demonstrated potential to succeed in the Indonesian and/or Philippine markets
• have a commercialized product or service or one close to commercialization

Halal Recipe

Creamy Roasted Vegetable Pasta

Get ready for the most scrumptious creamy roasted vegetable pasta dish! It packs at least seven different vegetables, as well as delicious cashew cream and farfalle pasta. This creamy roasted vegetable pasta incorporates seven different vegetables (tomato three ways!) into the dish, ensuring you get plenty of fiber and various vitamins. The creamy sauce is made with blended cashew cream, which ties everything together in the most perfect way.

Ingredients

1 pound package penne pasta, cooked

1 pound roasted tomatoes (should be seasoned during roasting)

1/2 pound roasted zucchini squash (should be seasoned during roasting)

2-4 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons capers

3 cloves garlic, crushed

heavy cream (2 tablespoons at a time)

freshly chopped basil (optional)

Method:

Roast the tomatoes and the squash (much like this) separately. Let cool.
Chop the tomatoes and squash roughly, keeping the chunks as large or as small as you like. Heat the olive oil on medium-low heat. Add the cooked pasta, roasted veggies, capers and crushed garlic. Mix thoroughly and allow everything to heat up evenly but not to fry (keeping the heat minimal).

Pour in the heavy cream, 2 tablespoons at a time, until you reach the desired creaminess. Do not let the mixture boil, but if it does, remove from heat immediately. Mix and stir the cream as you add it in, then remove from heat and serve at once. Top with freshly chopped basil, if you have it.

NutriPea

At NutriPea, we’re dedicated to producing clean, sustainable and locally sourced functional food ingredients. Located in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba — the heart of the Canadian Prairies — we’re the only North American manufacturer dedicated to the wet-processing of yellow peas and hulls into high-quality functional food ingredients.
For the past 40 years, we’ve specialized in the manufacture of food-grade protein isolates, starches and fibers derived from yellow peas grown right here in Canada. We’re proud to harness the potential of this Canadian pulse to provide our partners with an array of sustainable and nutritious functional food ingredients.
Today’s emphasis on eating “clean” has increased the demand for plant-based, nutrient-rich alternatives to everyday foods made with locally sourced ingredients. As Canada’s largest pulse crop, yellow peas are well-positioned to meet that need. Thanks to their high levels of protein, starch, fiber, vitamins and minerals, they’ve become a staple in the nutraceutical and functional food markets.
As a nitrogen-fixing legume, yellow peas require less fertilizer use than other crops, reducing the risk of fertilizers impacting our water supply through runoff and leaching. They also have one of the lowest carbon footprints of any protein source, making yellow peas an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional animal and other plant-based proteins.
